Sing for Hope Pianos: June 1-16, 2013
This spring we had the honor to decorate on of the 88 pianos which were installed around the 5 boroughs of New York City. Arranged by Sing for Hope in one of New York City’s most vibrant public art installations, the pianos are installed from June 1-15 for anyone and everyone to enjoy. This was followed by a magical event when all 88 pianos were reunited at the Josie Robertson Plaza in Lincoln Center for a day of concerts and music on June 16.
Having designed the centerpieces for Sing For Hope's 2012 Gala from vintage sheet music, we set to work on a piano design that would incorporate our lighting design motifs into the form and function of the piano. Using drinking straws in black and white, we designed a piano that is meditative in its repetition, graphic in color, and cacophonous in texture. A dreamscape of sea urchins. We hope it will draw its audience into another world and encourage experimentation while at its keys.
Hand crafted from us to you.
